Morris is safe. No one fires a second-year HC unless the guy is calling hookers. Arkansas hired Morris to rebuild the Texas HS connections Bielema dismantled. They'll give him at least a few years to accomplish that.

If more opposing coaches are able to predict AU's offense based on the formation, Malzahn's goose is cooked, but only if AU is willing to fork over the buyout.

Too many Ole Miss fans here underestimate the power of the Old Boy Network. In Mississippi it's not what you can do but who you know that counts. Luke would have to have a disastrous, scandal-ridden season to get the axe in year 3. By year 4 the honeymoon will definitely be over.

Quoted for truth.

The bloom is off the rose of Chad Morris at Arkansas I can't deny. You don't post the worst season in school history and have people genuflecting to you. That having been said most everyone, especially the powers that be, realized this was going to be a major rebuild... hell, a burn the building to the ground and start all over build. He gets more time.

I think Luke could be gone at the end of this year but it would have to be an all time bad coaching job. What probably happens is that he under performs and starts next year with a set that isn't hot its molten lava. In which case having a former HC or two on the coaching staff just sitting there could do him in.

Gus is an odd position in that it would be a giant kick to the balls for Auburn to fire him with that contract he saddled them with. Yet, at the same time, I think the majority of the Auburn fans are more then willing to see Gus gone.

I've said before that oddly enough, Malzahn is Houston Nutt 2.0. He has a few disappointing seasons, a few bad ones, you are ready to see him go, and then he pulls an SEC championship appearance out of his bag of tricks. So, the AD and fans grit their teeth and keep him around.

Sooner or later what happened to Nutt at Arkansas is going to happen to Malzahn in that the relationship will become too toxic to keep him there.

I know last season was hard for Arky fans.

But I think Morris will rebuild them, however, it is not a quick fix.

The sad truth is, sometimes a team in the SEC can improve a lot but not have the wins to reflect that.

I think with the proper personnel, Morris will have a fun, dynamic offense to watch.

I am not a Gus hater, I want him to succeed, but I am very skeptical. I would think he is probably the coach under the hot seat the most. Everyone talks about the buyout, but it would like be negotiated and paid by boosters in any event.

ESPN would no doubt say firing him is jumping the gun, but that is their standard narrative.

Again, I hope we have a good season so it is a moot point.

He's had one 7-6 season, three 8-5 seasons and two >=10 win seasons.
