Just spent last weekend there, stayed at Zota Beach Resort. Really nice, laid back vibe to the place. We liked it.

If you're interested in something even more laid back than AMI, you might want to check out Cedar Key, about 150 miles further up the Big Bend from Sarasota. I've never been, but my buddy from Indiana swears by the place - totally old school, pre-Disney Florida. Also literally in the middle of nowhere, and not easy to get to from anywhere else - which sounds like heaven to me
