Oklahoma's 47 game winning streak was accomplished against schedules that had a grand total of 18 teams with a winning record. Only 3 of which won as many as 8 games, those being 1956 Colorado (8-2-1), 1955 Maryland (10-1) in the '56 Orange Bowl, and 1953 Maryland (10-1) in the '54 Orange Bowl. Four of the 18 were 5-4-1.

The Big 8 was Oklahoma & Nebraska (and occasionally Missouri would have a Dan Devine or Colorado a Bill McCartney and make someone else interesting for a bit).
In 88 seasons of Big 8 football, there were only 18 teams that won the title without having Oklahoma or Nebraska tie them for the championship.
