#53 Charlie Williams

NO. 53: CHARLIE WILLIAMS, LB (1975-77)
Also considered: Bruce Culpepper, OL (1960-62); Kim Helton, C (1967-69)
Other notable: Frank McCarthy, C (1982-86)
The skinny: A captain in 1977, Williams made 409 career tackles, fourth on Florida's all-time list. He had 153 stops as a senior, when he was second-team All-SEC.

bigD, here my suggestions for the countdown, but you choose. )51 Ryan Kalich OL from Texas 50) Brad Culpper DT
45) Carlos Alvarez 44) James Bates LB 43) Graham McKeel RIP who lettered in 1964, 66, 67. Fullback who blocked for Spurrier and RBs Jack Harper, Alan Poe and Larry Smith 42) Jevon Kearse, who started as safety and then quickly moved to OLB.

Will post later as we get closer another suggestion list of 30-to 1. Season will begin before we know it.

That's a cool link, but for example I would put 22) as John L. Williams as my pick...why? Because I watched both John L and Emmitt play many times and you have to temper John Ls stats and everything because he made the sacrifice and moved to fullback when he was a great rb also...but the backfield was crowded with Neal Anderson and Lorenzo Hampton there. All three were first round NFL picks and John L. had the longer career and also led the NFL in receiving one or two years...he had great hands.

Emmitt was great no doubt, but he also left as a junior and didn't have the hands John L. did ...but he did improve some as a Cowboy. Emmitt was also not a great blocker. If I was putting a team together...John L. would be my pick everytime.

# 6 should be Judd Davis a kicker. I have met his family and we shared a lot of stories about UF. # 18 is a no brainer, Louis Oliver the former walkon who had an academic scholly and played safety alongside # 26 Jarvis Williams RIP. Oliver and Williams put the fear of God in WRs and none wanted to do a crossing route because they might be decapitated. Oliver was a first round pick of the Dolphins, where he and Jarvis continued to play together.
