Is it, though? And even if there was a big difference, I'd rather take $1.17MM per year for 6 years than a $2MM lump sum payment which is around what he was offered last year IIRC.

I honestly don't know.I just heard on a local sports talk show that he had to complete the 6 years to get paid...could be wrong.

Wasn't the Braves offer closer to 2.4 million?

that was signing bonus according to local radio... hed' be in double A starting out making 40-50 grand a year and have to work up to the majors and by the time he got to the majors he'd be making league minimum which is prolly 500k and locked in for another 4 or 5 years. BAsicaly it will take him 8 years to ge a big contract even if he is good. It is probably the smartest financial choice for him and then at the end of those 6 years not only is he a multi millionaire, but he can come play in the States and sign that 100 million dollar contract much sooner before his arm wears out. or if his arm wears out while he is in japan in year 3 vs the states he will have more money.
