guaranteed money is more than any guarantees he was offered last year or would be offered this year. I wouldn't necessarily want to spend 6 years in Japan personally, but from a financial perspective it's a good deal for him. He wouldn't likely be getting a big MLB deal much sooner, and if he does have actual injury issues, then this is a great deal for him. And if it works out for him, he'll get to sign anywhere he wants as a free agent when he's 25.

Big difference between a guaranteed lump sum signing bonus and 6 year contract that pays the entire amount after the 6 year term is completed
