I don't know what Kirby has to do with the path you've taken this thread, but for you to totally ignore the job Nick Saban has done in the last 12 yrs and chalk it all up to "recruiting" in this conference/division is asinine.
Saban doesn't just recruit players and funnel them straight to the early rounds of the NFL draft. You ignore the massive amount of player development, roster management, ego & attitude management and staff management to be able to sustain his level of success. Not to mention Saban's ability to adjust with the changing times and his willingness to change and evolve as needed.
He has been able to recruit and he does a great job of roster management. I have said for years that the early success for Saban at Bama was due to processing players and oversigning classes. It created a 25% advantage over other programs who wouldn't do it. Of course Saban has some player development, but the number of quality recruits have been the reason for his success and the success in the NFL Draft. Now GMs are drafting his players not based on numbers, but based on the perception of the program. Some of these players look better than they are because they a surround by other good players.

Saban went 26-2 in 2008-2009 with a bunch of gritty arse Shula 3-stars and freshmen from his first great class, including beating deeper and more talented rosters at Florida (by far), Georgia and LSU (2x).
Labeling those 2 seasons as anything other than fantastic coaching and development is laughable.

We know Saban can evaluate talent, and he has put a system in place to train, develop, and allow that talent to shine on the field. His ability to manage the ego's of a shite load of 4-5*'s as they constantly they pass through his program while he also manages the heavy staff turnover proves the man knows how to do more than just recruit.
