If D&D didn’t wanna commit to see things through in a reasonable way, they should have jumped ship after season 6 and let someone else finish the last 2-4 seasons out. Instead they had to tank themselves out of the job but the worst writing decisions ever and the most moronic after the episode excuses and armchair psychology known to man.
Should we have really expected much different though after XMen Origins? They skated by on GRRM adaptations and him writing an episode here and there.

It's rough because in the end I am empathetic, they thought they could do it and when you're making that much money and you've been doing it for so long it's really goddamn hard to say: I think we need to go look at other opportunities, someone else needs to take over.
However, people won't forget this easily and the next Star Wars trilogy just hired the most hated writers of our time outside of Rian Johnson (who also hilariously is a writer for Star Wars).
Those "the making of" episodes after the show are rough, too. Maybe the worst part of it all because you can tell they didn't really have great excuses/ideas at hand to explain some of the scenes.
