I wouldn't even necessarily call her a villain myself (but understand for the roles of the show that she must be cast in that light) and agree with you: She has been doing what she needs to in order to survive.

She has also had to sacrifice her dignity and in many respects, her loved ones. At some degree I don't think she's heartless, but watching your children kind of get picked off one by one will make anyone shift their intentions.

I'm hoping she doesn't go down the mustache twirling evil to for the sake of being evil road in these last few episodes, but I also hope that she has a chance at redemption.
