Oklahoma and Ohio State were arguably the 3rd-5th best teams in the country last year

Last year, Ohio State got smoked by Purdue, would've lost to Maryland if Maryland's backup QB had hit a wide open man for a two point conversion, and needed Penn St to absolutely collapse to beat them. They played one great game all year, beating Michigan, and that's all everyone remembers.

Some would say, "Wait, OSU beat 4 teams in the final of the AP top 25." OK, let's see who those teams lost to:

Penn St, who lost to:
7-6 Michigan St, who lost to Nebraska and only beat Rutgers by 4.
Michigan, who lost to OSU, ND, and FL.
Kentucky.
OSU.

Northwestern, who lost to
8-loss Akron
5-loss Duke
Michigan
ND
OSU

Washington, who lost to:
5-loss auburn
4-loss Oregon
7-6 Cal

Michigan, who lost to:
OSU, ND, and FL.

OSU was a mediocre football team who played one great game in beating their rival. I'm not arguing against you point about offense and defense - I'm just saying that OSU wasn't close to being a top 5 team last year in football reality.

I agree they weren’t. Or at least shouldn’t have been. Everyone you could argue for spots 4 and 5 were seriously flawed football teams.

You’ve gotta be able to score to win the Championship and Michigan, LSU, UW, Notre Dame either don’t have the horses or the scheme to enough score on Clemson or Bama on a normal day

On the flip side Bama and Clemson would score whenever they needed to against UCF, Ohio State, Oklahoma etc. Just like the whenever the Orange Bowl got close

Last year there was only 2 teams that Bama doesn’t take 8 out of 10 games against on a neutral field
