-The 40 points LSU scored in the paint against Yale (3/21) marked the 17th time the Tigers have had at least 40 points in the paint. According to ESPN Stats and Info, that is the second most by any team in a power conference. Duke leads all major conference teams with 40 or more on 19 occasions.
- LSU has had 40 or more paint points in 5-of-the-last-7 games – 40 vs. Texas A&M, 40 at Alabama, 44 at Florida, 48 vs. Florida (SECT) and 40 vs. Yale (NCAAT).
-The Tigers topped 50 twice with 50 vs. No. 24 Furman and 58 at Mississippi State.
-Michigan State and LSU will meet in the Sweet 16 in the same fashion that they met in the Sweet 16 of 1979 with Michigan State as the two seed and LSU as the three seed. That game played in Market Square Arena in Indianapolis, went to Michigan State, 87-71, and set the stage for the Magic Johnson-Larry Bird final in the championship game.
