My point is that just because a contract is in place it doesn't mean that things cannot be tweaked and that the contract breaker does not have some power in the deal. Saban shows us that much.
By pointing out that he will be a dead man walking next year and that he will play in front of 2500 people per game and that he will further trash his reputation before being unceremoniously canned, the board and Avery most certainly can come to a deal that benefits both parties.
Besides, Avery will want to work. He isn't going to sit around drawing checks for nothing. He will look to get an analyst gig on television.

I suppose its a matter of semantics: Avery could collect the full buy-out but that entail him getting unceremoniously canned.
Or, he could agree to some resolution to a mutual parting of ways that will help him continue coaching or another gig.
