I watched him play a ton in high school. He did run very soft for someone with his size. He rarely would lower his shoulder into someone, he always tried to dance and run around them. It worked fine and wasn't necessarily a bad strategy as he was generally faster than everyone on the field, but he was not a hard nosed runner in High School. He just wasn't. He looked night and day different on Saturday.

I watched him play a dozen plus games in high school and knew his coaches. The kid was the biggest guy on the field every game and shied away from contact every time he ran. Part of it was him trying to act like a 5”10 rb and make guys miss instead of going through them. Part of it was him being soft.
