They barely made the tournament too but we'll allow it. The chick-fil-A bowl is like being a 10th seed.

Growing up, never considered the Peach Bowl in as high esteem as Sugar, Rose, Fiesta, Orange and maybe Cotton

You're right it wasn't back then, but it is now. The Peach Bowl was a playoff game 2 years ago and will be again in 2019. It's part of the 6 bowl rotation, or in other words, a New Years 6 Bowl Game.
