CNO just said he will be bringing in Scott Cochran for advisement on the next S&C coach for the basketball program.

I think that's a really good idea by him.
Also, where did you hear this? Is there another interview happening?

I heard it toward the very end of the Inside the Lockeroom interview with Wimp and Barry just a few mins ago. Barry asked him what his thoughts were on S&C and he said he's already talked with Scott Cochran about it and wants his input on who they hire.

I must have missed that one. Going to find it.

Has he been on WJOX yet?
He was on this morning around 7:30, but I only caught the tail end of it. I'm sure they'll put it up on their site soon, if not already.

Got an opinion on Oats?
I am not an expert on ol' OatzNhoes, but it sounds like a good hire + fits with what I'd want from a hire
- Smart coach (smart enough to use analytics)
- Fun/exciting brand
- Players show development
- Still has that drive/energy to build something
- Someone the fan base will likely buy into early
I mentioned I think it is a better hire than Thad Matta (given his baggage / lack of drive to get back into coaching)

Also what's your GT for Xbox?
I think it is JMoneyBallerz (#MiddleSchoolIdeas) but I have to check
I only really play Rocket League and get my arse kicked in Fortnite. I'm slammed at work though for the foreseeable future so not sure if you'll see me on much for awhile

I sat next to Andy O'brien ( LINK) on a long flight so I'm basically an expert on S&C philosophy / trends
How "cutting edge" / "genius S&C" is Scott Cochran? I'm sure he keeps up to date, but I never considered him to be on the forefront of the academic/research side
I say that because basketball requires a significantly different type of S&C. The program should focus on improving stability, body control/balance and explosion and a lot less on power/strength necessary in football
Does Scottie C have a great grasp on evaluating someone in a different "field" of S&C?

Completely 100% cutting edge/genius

Yes. HundoP.

This wasn't a knock on Scotty C, he clearly is elite in the FB space
My point is that it is a massive difference in S&C style/strategy. It would be extremely difficult to be an expert in both without having some time to build
For example, I imagine Nate Oats is a better basketball coach /evaluator than Nick Saban right this second
.... Maybe not after Saban has a couple nights of film study/coaching videos but right now Mar 23 around noon

I know.
And, though I have nothing to back this up, I do think he keeps up with the cutting edge philosophies. And, I'm sure he knows Oats isn't looking for a football S&C coach.

Gene, for the record, Oats wasn't saying in the interview he wanted Scott Cochran to implement his plan for basketball or to go find someone who does the same things he does for S&C. I took it as him saying he wanted to talk with Cochran to see who he knew in the S&C industry that would be good for their basketball program. And the reason why he wanted Cochran's input is that yes, Cochran is one of the most highly regarded S&C coaches in CFB. If you look at his tenure at UA he has adapted with the changing styles of play and athlete that Nick Saban has wanted. Alabama's football players look much different than they did from about 2008-2012.

I agree that it's different but Cochran has experience with basketball too.

While in the NBA with the Hornets from 2004-06, Cochran’s duties included assisting with the exercise and strength conditioning programs to help players achieve and maintain optimal fitness throughout the NBA season. With the Hornets, he worked with NBA standouts Chris Paul, Baron Davis, David West and Tyson Chandler.

It'd be pretty strange watching a dude hold up 2 fingers the entire 2nd half.
