My wife and I have joint accounts. We have a Money Market account for savings, and two checking accounts. One is for bills, and the other is for “spending money” for trips, nights out to dinner, football games, etc. We do have separate credit cards, but only use it for birthday/Christmas gifts and stuff we may buy for each other. We have been married for two years, and it has worked for us. We closed our own personal accounts, and pooled all of our money together a few weeks after we got married. My wife is quite possibly the most frugal person ever, so we don’t ever argue over money or anything. We basically made a rule that we would spend out of the joint accounts as we wish, and we would only consult with the other if the purchase was over $100.
