I agree with your points. All programs seem to accept commits and then ease them out should higher rated players want in; however, Bama seems to be more player focused and tries to make it easier for them (at least that is my perception). And I also agree, there should be some other label for these commits. "Agreed to be each others #1 for at least a while, as we both shop around for better fits or just use the process to get free family mini-vacations"
The Bogle committment was typical, the rumor was that he was going to commit to UT at the PolyBowl, but committed to UA; but was obviously never committed.
As the focus moves to the early signing day, all recruitment activities will have to move back (as many coaches mentioned yesterday) and with that the pressures on kids to decide earlier and "commit" earlier. This seems to benefit both parties to a point; but as Saban often mentions, "for those kids who are late bloomers, this doesn't provide them with the time for late stage evaluation" = aka-Josh Jacobs

2020 - What are the biggest needs for this class?
After an amazing OL, DB, and DL recruiting call and an overall great class; what are the biggest needs for the 2020 class?
with the Beck decommittment is it QB? (Lia, Tyson, Hatcher)
If no TE is found to add to the 2019 signees, with this put additional pressure on TE position?
and should I even have to mention, Linebackers? a continued need for depth.

I'd MUCH much rather have 2 or 3 "late bloomer" Josh Jacobs type of guys than squeeze those guys out for the start ranking guys who never pan out or are pumped full of themselves from the time they are a Soph in HS and touted as god's gift to football.

JMHO..
