Well, it's certainly why we have such horrendous trade deficits with countries across the globe. But this isn't about politics. It's about Alabama not being as good as everyone thinks.
Think of all the people killed in the name of freedom since Alabama toppled Oklahoma last. The numbers are in the millions.

Hey, defense company stockholders have to make their money, regardless of how many innocent people die and how much debt we rack up.
