Good to see Birmingham seeing some success. But there's no real competition from anywhere in Alabama when it comes to food if New Orleans is in the discussion.

Nobody is saying that Birmingham is better overall than New Orleans, but there are absolutely a handful of restaurants in Alabama that stack up with the top restaurants in New Orleans.

But what do i know? I'm only listening to the opinion of unbiased national food critics. They don't have near the wisdom of biased Louisiana native who's probably never even eaten anywhere in Alabama except for fast food and O'Charley's

I'm assuming you're NOT describing me since (1) I grew up in Alabama AND remember how excited friends were to go to Lamberts or to go to The Macaroni Grille when passing through Montgomery, and (2) I can guarantee that I've had much better food options in Baton Rouge and New Orleans than I ever had in Montgomery or Birmingham. Since moving out of the South (and maybe that makes my view of Birmingham uninformed these days), I've eaten at restaurants on the James Beard lists in Philly, DC, and Chicago, cities that New Orleans is in competition with. Birmingham is getting some attention, and that's truly great for the city and the state. But let's not act like Birmingham is the best thing since sliced white bread (which, as has been pointed out, is an acceptable part of Alabama restaurant menus).

Also, wait, when did people in Alabama care what liberal elites think about them and their food?! James Beard was gay. I wonder if y'all wanna give that award back now...

Also also, Birmingham is too small to be an unbiased location for the SEC offices . Just sayin.
