with good reason. I know folks in the great state of Mississippi right now who had their 7 or 8 year old play tackle football this fall. Why? "Cause he's big" of course!

When somebody says that, you can't argue. Of course you can, but you're wasting your time. That's not to say that they're stupid because Daddy is an engineer from Mississippi State . Seriously though, football is engrained in some so deep that they completely disregard the warnings.

My boy will never play football while his brain is developing. I just don't think the risk is worth it when he has his entire life to live. If he happens to be an extraordinary athlete while playing other sports like basketball, soccer, or baseball, I'd consider letting him play football in high school, but that's only if he really wants to. And, at that point, it's kind of silly considering he'd have to go back to basics to learn how to properly hit and where to keep his head and such while the other kids already know.

I'm sure high school football still has a bunch of freshmen who were asked to come out to tryouts because of their size but have never played a down of football, right?

Actually there are studies that show soccer has and even higher rate of concussions than football. Baseball, all it takes is one line drive, in a game or practice (one) and your child may never be right again. Basketball, well I am not sure about it.

The point is nothing is without risks. Football at a very young age I doubt has any problems with concussions (they just are not big enough to hit that hard), and most players start playing football in high school anyway.
