I am thinking so because Finebaum and Bama fans convinced me this was the case in the early 2000. Maybe they should let Saban retire and turn this thing over to French Onion to get some real winning done. On a serious note your fanbase should never be let off the hook for that bit of nonsense.

In our defense, Saban was something of an unknown quantity then, and Fran did beat the dogshit out of him. I mean just destroyed him.
I think what it proves is Bama > LSU even more than Saban > Franchione.

He left Bama for TAMU in Big 12 and ushered in the Mike Shula era of Bama football. Best era of Bama football ever.

That was a glorious time in SEC football. Dudes were getting pushed down stairs in Memphis and murdered. The veil of the Alabama football criminal apparatus was almost totally removed for the world to see what it really is. almost. now they are espn darlings.

What was most remarkeable was how quickly the program went to crap. When boosters ran for cover and the money dried up and players spread across conference you had an SEC that was really as close to a level playing field as it would ever get. late 90s early 00s era SEC was really a great time to be a fan. SEC now is just terrible. Back to 70s with talent stockpiled in a few places.
