I think most people feel bad when they read stories like this and those involved are anonymous but when it's someone you know by face, voice, or even type/print, it's different. That connection brings it closer to home in a way that anonymity doesn't.

It doesn't mean people only care about who they know, just that it makes it harder for us to shake when we have some sort of connection the person or people involved.

Some folks mistake that for only caring about these events when it happens to famous or somewhat famous people.

And to take it a step further..

Most of us have seen her enough and know enough about the wreck that we can create the scenario of what she looked like as she and her grandchild were getting destroyed by a truck.

I know that's morbid, but it's the truth.

And it makes the whole situation more real.
