I've noticed Florida fans no longer post in threads about defense.

Scoring ppg was about 15 in September for the Gators.

I think the past 4 weeks was 33 ppg allowed. Season average is up to 22ppg.

Who didn't see that coming?

People continually talk about Florida's defense, for years now, like they are the same units and caliber of player Muschamp had in 2012 and Meyer before that.

It makes no sense.

My post is in reference to Grantham.
A coach who loves shutouts.
Who loves sticking it to an opponent for the full 60 minutes.
A coach with an NFL mentality where the stars play the whole game racking up stats.

The problem is that he doesn't develop youth. And the fan excitement from those dominant defensive performances crumbles when he is incapable of making an opponent 1 dimensional.

I enjoyed Grantham's defenses. Few things are as exciting as shutting out a bad Auburn team with the starters on the field the whole game. But playing a bad team with a vertical passing game turns that run defense into swiss cheese. Grantham controls the line of scrimmage with numbers (lots of run stops from his DBs). And when the numbers can't be in his favor, the defense doesn't work.

It is less about personnel and more about the inability to adapt the scheme with the personnel.
