Dude averaged the same amount of points as Herb in half the minutes per game and turned it over way less. Does Herb suck? No, and I'm not comparing the two.

Whether you think you did or not, you compared the 2. Avery Jr. took the same number of shots per game as Herb did and Herb was more efficient. He doesn't turn the ball over because he dribbles his arse backwards towards defenders and can't create for others. That's not even taking into account that Herb was a defensive monster last year which was the main reason he got the minutes he did.

he scored 8 points in 10 minutes with 1 assist and no turnovers in our tourney win. That's great production off the bench.

He was terrific that one game. Awesome. In fact he was pretty solid the entire postseason and even with that he didn't break the 35% mark from the field for the season because of just how brutal his season was going up until that point. One or two games shouldn't overwrite an entire 3 seasons worth of sub-par production.

For the record I don't think Avery Jr. is some terrible basketball player who's not worthy of a D-1 scholarship. I do think he's an end of the bench player who shouldn't play much at a decent P5 school. I also think our 5-star caliber recruit is already better than he is and can produce better than the 34% career FG% Avery Jr. is sporting. I understand easing Kira in, but I'd be surprised if Jr's minutes dwindle any even if Kira proves to be capable. We'll probably just do what we did last year and shift him more into the 2-guard spot.

People can avoid calling it nepotism if they want, but I think everyone here knows the truth. It's a terrible situation for CAJ to be in. His son is a D1 basketball player and he's the coach keeping him on the bench. I personally think CAJ is looking forward to not having that burden.

Side note: I find it funny how Riley catches so much shite, when he's been a far better player than Avery Jr. has been here.

That fact that you are comparing Avery Jr and a future NBA player proves my point.

I never said he was great, even good but nepotism? get out of here.

sub par production from a backup point guard? stop the presses

My very lukewarm take is that Riley and AJ JR probably both catch too much shite. Both are solid-ish players that have obvious limitations, but neither kill us. They aren’t, for example, dumb players or questionable work ethic players.

It’s not like AJ is Ben Eblen (also not dumb or lazy to be fair to him) and it’s not like Riley is ....why can’t I think of a white wing that recently played for us?
