Your question is flawed. Gus has always been like this.

He nearly pissed away a sure-victory against UGA in 2013 needing a miracle catch to win.

He squandered a 21-3 lead against FSU in the BCSCG.

He got blown out by LSU early in 2013 because we didn’t have an identity.

He pissed away one of the most all-around talented offenses in AU history in 2014.

He failed to develop a QB for 2015 and 2016 and saw similar deficiencies we saw in 2013 and 2014 without the highly underrated playmaker at QB to make up for them.

As the days go by...it’s the same as it ever was.

2013 broke Gus. Until then, his offenses were dynamic and unpredictable. He had a 5,000 yard passer at Tulsa before he came to Auburn. He broke Auburn passing records with Chris Todd. But, in 2013, he had The Wizard and Tre Mason. They ran the zone read over everyone. Champagne corks popped and everyone called him an offensive genius for taking that 2012 squad and going to the national championship game.

Since then, he has been unwilling to shape the offense based on the talent around him. He keeps recruiting pocket passers and making them run the zone read, trying to prove that he’s the smart guy in the room.
