First off, I am a huge LSU fan and I am watching the game right now, but all I can think about is getting my business to stand out. I own an advertising agency in Shreveport, really I serve all of the Arlatex and Louisiana, but I am struggling. I am a 23 year old entrepreneur that is struggling to find businesses to support my dream. I don't know what to do, it seems as if every business I talk to isn't interested in hearing how online advertising can not only change their business but truly separate them from their competitors. Do the great people of Tigerdroppings have any advice for a young entrepreneur?

Find out who is in charge of Gordon McKernon’s advertisting budget. Get that client and your advertising agency is set

Can you post a link to your website and your personal email address (not work email) so I can send you some pointers?

I own an insurance agency and I own a very small digital marketing business, which has less than a half dozen clients.

I suggest doing three things:

1. Have a GREAT website
2. Know the figures for your market (say you're speaking with a florist...KNOW how many searches for "x" miles done in the past thirty days were for flowers)
3. Undercut your competition in prices. The only reason I began the marketing agency was I became tired of my friends and neighbors getting ripped off.

Add "As Seen on Tigerdroppings.com!"

What kind of advertising, if any, have you done so far? How have you approached these businesses that you've talked to?

I’ve never been in the advertising business but I’ve bought a lot of advertising. I would say you need to be calling/meeting with clients 24/7 to build a good base. Figure out your target audience and go for that first. If you’re selling online presence/ads, social media, SEO type stuff I would probably start with some businesses with older leadership and are long established. They aren’t going to truly understand the need or terminology but if you sell it well they may use you. They sure as hell aren’t going to do it themselves. Have stats on search returns, number of searches, what their competitors are doing online. Every retail business is trying to figure out how to reach millennials right now but few have it figured out.
Good luck!

You'll get better help on the money board. With that said find your niche douche baggery level. A bit of douche bag is okay. Too much is no good. Right now I have a feeling you're too much douche bag

You own an ADVERTISING agency, but you aren't sure how to effectively ADVERTISE your own business?!
This might be your problem. Sounds like you suck at advertising and should go work for someone else for a few years before you run your own business.
