Franks trending up

While UF fans may be quick to turn on Franks following the loss to Kentucky, his coach is pleased with the progress he’s making in his development.

“He continues to improve,” UF coach Dan Mullen said. “I thought he played better in game two than he did in game one. I continue to see his improvement. Those are important things for him as he continues to grow.”

Coach Mullen, let me introduce you to Straws, the resident QB guru

reel, just for fun, what did you think Mullen would say?

I will be very nice and humble when Franks is eventually benched, and I made a better decision than Dan Mullen. Also going to send my resume to a few sports websites.

quote:

If I was a defensive coordinator, I would just have the safeties cheat up outside the hashmarks, crash my CBs and jam the receivers on the outside and force them inside. I'd blitz my LBs and crash my Dline on the inside as well. When every pass you make is below 5 yards, your defensive gameplan is monumentally easier.

quote:

Intermediate Passes: 4 - 18 (22%)
Deep Passes: 0 - 4 (0%)

Haunting, isn't it? Won't be the first thing I was right about this year.

Gosh, Straws....tell us uniformed internet jockeys who led the team on a 99 yd TD drive? I forgot if it was Jones or Trask.

You wont say anything nice about Franks, that's ok...I knew my shiny new hook would catch a big fish

Too damn easy.

Who led the team to 16 total points against a team we outclass at every position except Quarterback?

He's good at completing short routes, so why he elected over 50% of his passes to be intermediate/deep routes is only further evidence of just how brick stupid he is.

Yeah, a guy who really likes talking about the Quarterback position comes to talk about the Quarterback position.

Sorry I don't support a braindead player (for the position) who has no future at Florida or the position he's playing. I was on board for a single game, but then he went out and shite his pants against Kentucky all over again.

Straws, maybe you should read Mullen's comments about Franks. Of course you will say it isn't what he really means, but if he said Franks regressed then you'd be all aboard the Mullen train.

You are pure entertainment...golden. Stay just the way you are....this place would be dull otherwise.

Of course Im still trying to understand WHY Mullen would let a braindead QB be the starter ??? Hard to fathom isn't it?

I don't think there's a coach in the country who comes right out and says their Quarterback performed badly.

But if you're stupid enough to believe that Mullen thought that Franks had an outstanding night on Saturday, that's on you.

The stats, film nor the evidence in general back that idea up.

The thing is, you want to see this as people picking horses, but I'm just telling you what I see. I provide images, film and statistics and you just tell me "O SCRAWS YOU JUST DON'T LIKE HIM". It's kind of annoying.

Okay, there's one coach.

But I digress. It's rare for a coach to come out after a game and throw his QB under the bus.

But I mean, this is a question to everyone: Does everyone really think Franks had a better game last Saturday than the Charleston Southern game?

Franks was fine until he was asked to win the game. Then he melted.

Exactly. He was fine until he actually had to do his job. It's the same thing last year vs. LSU and A&M. He only needed a touchdown to win, a field goal to tie if he hadn't made that terrible throw for two points.

You know the one, where he watched a player get open but instead tried to thread a needle in the back of the end zone rather than take the easy flat.

Either you trust mullen or you don’t. I’m not a trust the coaches guy normally but this fricker has a good track record with qbs. If he thinks franks is our best shot maybe he is.

Our best shot at what? The National Championship? The SEC? The SEC East?

I'm okay with going with "the guy who gives us the best chance to win" if we're expecting to actually win something.

What do we lose by trying someone else, even if it's only every 3rd and 7th drive? Franks' NFL stock? Him transferring next year?

If we had any shadow of a hope of making this season into something, I'd say fire away with Franks. But why in the frick are we wasting another year to develop a QB who has no future in the NFL?

I trusted the last staff, I trusted this staff until the Kentucky game. Something drastic needs to change, and if I could identify the glaring flaw in Franks' game, then I have faith that Mullen can as well.

But if Franks goes out and throws 22 downfield routes, we may not win another game outside of Idaho.

The problem is that Jones is to young start right now . He needs atleast half the season to be ready to take the starting job . I think Mullen is scared to play Jones when he is not ready . We don’t have anyone else . I think Jones will be the starter before the season is over . Franks can’t run good enough for Mullen’s offense. It seems to be messing up the offense with Mullen calling to many passing plays .

A game like today wouldve been the perfect time to make the switch at the half, but it didnt happen so..... Imo the only way Franks gets pulled is by injury. Mullen seems to be ok taking the good with the bad while Franks learns the new offense. Ppl forget we are only 3 games in.

CDM presser last night was telling as to his logic for sticking with Franks. He said this is only Franks third game..... in this system. He doesn’t care what he did last season or how he was coached, it’s a new start and he feels he is learning each week.

He then went on to say that Franks made mistakes that absolutely can be corrected and coached up. And the only way he would pull him is if he starts to “whine, hang his head and not listen to his coaching”.

I’m in the camp that FF doesn’t have it between the ears to be a qb. But this may just be coach speak for “shite, he’s the best we have right now”

Franks is a sophomore and has two more years after this year. None of us knows what the future holds for Gator football...we all want to win. Franks wants to win and he worked his arse off from spring through fall to get stronger and develop.

Being a QB at UF is a pressure cooker and isn't easy. You get blamed and you can get the praise when you do well. I see it as Franks hasn't done enough good yet, but doesn't mean he wont. He has the right coach now. He definitely has the arm. Mullen works to keep his confidence level up...imagine looking at social media and the crap that's posted...thick skin needed.

Indeed. Could you imagine how it would have been for Danny Wuerrefl if there were the internet like today? That guy had a hide as thick as I’ve ever seen.
