I purchased two tickets from a scalper off Craigslist at the BP across from Williams Brice stadium before the game. I went to go through the gate and the tickets wouldn't scan. They told me to go to the ticket office. The was line of around of 10 people having the same problem. Long story short they were fake tickets and I lost $260 for two tickets. Lesson learned for sure. Just wanted to let people know to watch out for ticket scalpers.

So what did you do? I had an odd ticket experience at the 2005 Sugar Bowl at the dome. I was quite angry.

There's no such thing as chicks with dicks, only dudes with tits.

This is why you go the verified 3rd party route. I paid a little more ($165 per, mainly because I bought weeks in advance), but I got in.

I always get a pic of the dudes I buy tickets from. Just in case.

I have been buying from scalpers for about 1/2 a century. Still better than sites like Ticketmaster and Stub Hub but young people have lost the ability to haggle and make sound street level decisions. Most of human communication is non verbal so eye contact, body posture, and other things can offer clues to real vs fake.

This happened to my brothernlaw at georgia game. The fakes look really good. Unfortunate that there are alot of cheaters out there. I would only buy from stub hub or a trusted friend now. I used to get tickets right at the gate before the game years ago, not anymore.

Not only will they get you with the fake tickets, they use ticket scalping to launder counterfeit money which they give you in change.

I never had a problem picking up cheap tickets in Athens or when I lived in Columbus OH. Picked OSU/Mich ticket for face in an OSU nc run year. Half the time, found free tickets for UGA games just talking with people at tail gates.
I generally use stub hub now as there are too many ways that tickets are delivered making fraud way easier.

highly disagree there. Stubhub may be pricey on the fees but at least you're getting guaranteed protection if something screws up. They're either making sure you get in the game or giving you all of your money back. Lots of big events even have a stubhub tent on-site for any issues. Scalpers you have no clue what you're getting. There is absolutely nothing stopping me or anyone else from taking my physical ticket and entering the barcode numbers on stubhub et al and selling it electronically to someone, then taking my now invalid physical ticket and selling to a scalper, then passing it on to you. Then what are you gonna do? You're fricked.
Now a days with the rapid rise of things going electronic I would never feel safe buying from a scalper.

Yep. E-tickets from a verified 3rd party are the way to go. Much harder to fake and duplicate and you have the peace of mind knowing that you're covered if someone did pull one over on you.

Tickpick was great. No fees, same E-tickets I'd have gotten through Stubhub, etc. In fact, they were the same seats I saw across several sites. Sellers just list across all 3rd party sites and they sell to whoever buys. The actual E-tickets came through Ticketmaster. Had no issues.
Only real thing I can think of is you need to keep your phone juiced until you make it inside the stadium.

Yes and have a screen shot of the bar codes on your phone.
Don't rely on 4g with 100k people bouncing off a tower or two.

In Athens, I'll only deal with a scalper selling near the entrance gates to the stadium. Then I'll ask him to walk with me to the gate and have the tickets test scanned. Only then can you be sure.

We tailgated with some folks in Cola who bought tickets in our lot on game day. They thought they got a great deal because the tickets were below face value - lower level 45 yard line @ $100/ea (red flag, anyone?). We weren't even to our seats when we got the text that they were turned away and heading back to the lot. I've heard stories about fake tickets over the years, but this was the first time I've seen it personally.
These were the same folks laughing at us for buying expensive seats online.

Yeah, I hate paying a broker but I like being done with it and having insurance.

Not sure why you quoted that as me, never bought off Craigslist

Maybe the younger guys have changed but the older guys were service based and they worked the repeat business. Always better seats and better prices than Stub Hub.
I will say I think a few of them either worked directly for the NCAA or they were selling them for the NCAA because of seat location. Went to several Final Fours and always seemed to be the same 5 or 6 guys no matter where I went and they had seats you never see for sale. When the NCAA moved to Indianapolis in the late 90's, lo and behold a few of the old scalpers moved with them.
Besides, the biggest scalpers are never the street guys. It is the AD's and athletic department and the NCAA who have the lions share of the scalping dollar.
