Franks Being Physical

From Gainesville Sun
In an attempt to win over his teammates, Franks has gone the physical route in practice, sometimes trying to run over defenders with his 6-foot-6, 240-pound body. But he’s taken on the wrong players a few times, running back Jordan Scarlett said.
“He tried to run a couple of people over that he shouldn’t,” Scarlett said. “Jachai Polite, and he tried to run over Jabari (Zuniga). I’m like, ‘Dude, those dudes are not the guys you want to run into. Maybe somebody in the secondary, but not those guys.’ But he has the attitude, so, I like it.”
Scarlett said Franks has been aggressive in other ways, too, and his teammates have noticed his effort.
“I’ve seen him make some grown-man plays, just making the extra-effort plays, like diving across the pylon and diving over people and stuff,” Scarlett said. “He’s showing the quarterback has that kind of effort. In a game, he’s going to make that same execution for a first down or a touchdown.”
This gives me cause for optimism...240 lbs willing to throw his body into the mix to win games. I think a lot of us are going to be shocked at how hard he has worked under Savage and in the summer to be much stronger. Cant wait to watch.

This is not assuaging my concerns for his decision making.

I said a few months ago that his chances of being hurt are because of three things:
Shoulderpad level.
Long strides.
Decision making/processing time.
I don't doubt that he has confidence for days, my problem is that his confidence is almost like when you're a drill sergeant and you have a tryhard. When he hears: "I want you to be a physical runner." He goes out and tries to hit Polite. When you say: "I want you to focus on getting better and not on being the starter." His immediate response is how he isn't putting forth *any* thought into the position which we know is a lie.
He takes what you say and does whatever it is 10 fold -- all except understand the game at a higher level.
Even in his interview, he botched a line when he was talking about what was more important and he said making big plays, then corrected himself and said making smart plays.
He wants to be a hero, and we just need him to be competent.

Spivey and Nick de la Torre over at gc said Trask definitely won the scrimmages so Mullen is blatantly starting Franks just because of his experience last year.

This is going to backfire on Mullen REALLY quick if Franks goes 6/22 against Charleston Southern...

Theres a saying " if you cant say anything nice then STFU "
We haven't even played a snap yet. Start your own thread to bash Franks....but if you haven't sweated through the summer grueling days...losing a pint of fluid every day, then you haven't a right to bash anyone.
Let the kid start and play....Mullen wanted him, so obviously there are a lot more smarter QB whisperers than previously thought.

Trask is a practice QB. He couldn't even start in high school. Don't get the absurd second string hype some of you give him. Dude literally was a back up in high school and you want him to start for UF? I'm good. This year is a rebuild. Let Frank's start and finish the year with Jones.

And he's been crushing Franks all off-season. What he needs is experience, and we have a perfect three game stretch to get it for him, but instead we're going to trot out a guy we know isn't a Quarterback.
What I hate seeing is that we're going to waste those three games on a guy who hasn't learned, and hasn't advanced while the guy who advanced, won the scrimmages and practices is going to hold the clipboard and not be given a chance.
I hope that latter part is wrong and they split snaps, because Trask has decent skills, just needs to get the experience.

You are so fricking delusional and its comical. You got your itty bitty feelings hurt cause Franks is the starter, stop acting like a little girl and grow up.
If Trask "crushed him so badly" why the frick didn't Mullen see it? Cause its in your head fricker. I suggest you contact Mullen immediately and apply for QB assist. I know Mullen will be all ears and he will call 911 to have mental professionals take you into custody...you are much smarter than Mullen and Johnson...who get paid to evaluate QBs and obviously have done an injustice. Its not fair I tell you, it just aint fair.

He only elected to go with Franks due to his experience, and while there's no doubt that Mullen can coach up a QB better than I can -- I just feel like guys who show out in practice should start since that's how every position should be run, I don't think I'm asking too much.
Now put on your big girl panties and settle down.

Practice QBs and game day QBs aren't always hand in hand.
Fact is..all our QBs are bad or young. Frank's has the experience with the worst Qb staff in the country coaching him(seriously...Doug and Mac are that bad to me).
Mullen has done great things with very bad talent. So let's actually trust the QB guru as coach maybe?
Sorry but you can't question him with QBs. He is far to proven a QB mind for this nonsense

I'll trust him with anyone but Franks.
Until I see Franks do something Quarterbackly, it will stay that way.
That a guy who has never started ate his lunch at practice (from multiple sources) is not a good sign. I know Mullen knows Quarterbacks, which is why I'm calling it now that Franks won't finish the season.

Bro..Frank's is QB because Trask isn't a good runner. Frank's actually can run a read option enough to put a few good runs a game. Add in Trask has not been in a competitive game of football in how long? He couldn't even start in high school. Frank's is the best option by default. Jones is the best option long run. He clearly has a good arm in the spring game just struggles with accuracy and reading defense..which he should be high school that's understandable.
This year is simply about setting the system. Growing the youth. Building up the future for UF. If Mullen sees Frank's as the best option...seems like he is probably the best option. My bigger issue is CeCe not being on the field with polite at the same time. Those two could be absolutely terrifying coming off each end. Also both pocket the run well to force it inside. So I'm hoping we work scheme's so both see the field..cause could be nasty to watch.

This should be good news for you. It sounds like he is more likely to get injured if he trying to run everyone over . Then maybe if the freshman gets hurt too your guy will get to play .
