I think he's one of the single best athletes on our roster and a heckuva ball player

Not trying to start an argument here, but where does this come from? He takes a long time to get up to speed and honestly looked borderline slow returning punts last year. I’m sure the long speed is there but the acceleration and change of direction looked nonexistent.

The fact that he's listed as a starting cornerback tells me that he has acceleration and change of direction ability.

In all honesty, the guy has been jerked around for two years "experimenting" with positions. If we'd just put him somewhere and left him he'd probably be established by now.

No worries.

Diggs, since he arrived on campus, has been purported to be an incredible athlete. He also never redshirted, and stepped on campus immediately and got on the field. He could have played either offense or defense. To my eye when he's been healthy, he's obviously an incredible athlete, and I base this mostly on his play on defense, not punt returns.

From his RollTide Biography:

quote:

Ranked among top defensive back recruits coming out of Maryland ... a versatile athlete, saw time on both offense and defense while returning kickoffs and punts

quote:

One of the Tide’s top athletes who saw time in various roles as a freshman ... played on offense and defense while also returning kickoffs and punts throughout his first year with UA ... made the shift to strictly the defensive side of the ball as a sophomore while resuming his return duties

Diggs has had some nagging injuries at times, but he's simply one of the best athletes and best players on the team.
