I'd like to see Waddle as the PR at some point this year for two reasons. Firstly, I don't like having a starting DB in an already thin and inexperienced secondary getting that much extra exposure to an injury. Secondly, I'm ready for a game-changer at PR again. While Diggs is fine, Waddle seems electric. Saban probably just needs Waddle to get more comfortable in practice fielding kicks so we don't end up with unnecessary turnovers. Hopefully by week 3-4 we can move from Diggs to Waddle.

I would recommend lowering our expectations for Waddle as a PR. He may be an all-timer, but he may not. I remember Deion Belue was the craziest PR I’d ever seen coming out of HS.. when he finally made it to UA, I’m not sure he ever returned a single punt.
No one could have called Eddie Jackson being an elite PR.
Lots of guys dominate it in HS. Waddle did. To be special at it in college, you’ve gotta have a little something extra. Let’s give Jaylen some time to see if he’s got it.

Quality post, founded on logic and reason, that cautions against over-hyping a Bama player. This may not be well-received on this board.

I think its the switch from being able to get away with running east / west a bunch, even going backwards, and running around HS opponents whereas in college (especially NFL) you really need to get north / south as quickly as possible and look for the creases.

I don't have any crazy expectations. I'd just like a guy there who's actually a weapon and a threat to make a big return on occasion. It's been a while since we've had that. And this isn't based off anything Waddle did in HS. This is based off of what our insiders are saying our coaching staff has observed in practice. Apparently our coaches think Waddle is going to be special, with a capital S. We'll see.

In fairness, he was never healthy. Couldn't even practice but played through the pain for games.
