Quality Thread #163
Figured, I could make a easy guide for everyone to follow just in time for football season.
Over the top (OTT) is a term used to refer to content providers that distribute streaming media as a standalone product directly to consumers over the Internet, bypassing telecommunications, multichannel television, and broadcast television platforms that traditionally act as a controller or distributor of such content.
The term is most synonymous with subscription-based video on demand services that offer access to film and television content (including existing series acquired from other producers, as well as original content produced specifically for the service), including but not limited to Amazon Video, Hulu, and Netflix, as well as a wave of "skinny" television services that offer access to live streams of linear specialty channels similar to a traditional satellite or wireline television provider, but streamed over the public Internet, rather than a closed, private network with proprietary equipment such as set-top boxes.

PS Vue Plans
Access $44.99/Month
Core $49.99/Month

I wouldn't even bother with Elite. For $20 more, you can add hbo/showtime. Its the same package as elite.

I may actually read this gobbledygook. I still use Suddenlink and I feel like that means I'm voluntarily paying more than I should.
I want basic and high speed internet and I want hbo and shotime and amazon and netflix. What should I do?

I used PS Vue last season and had no issues. I usually drop the streaming once college basketball season ends.
A couple of weeks ago I decided to go with SlingTV since PS Vue hiked their rates up. $30 a month for basic+sports channels and a free Roku? Tough to beat. I've had nothing but good results so far. Looks like HBO would run you another $15 and Showtime another $10. With the Roku, you can download Netflix and Hulu onto it and use it as an all-in-one device.

Sounds great but it intimidates me for some reason. Roku- I know it but I don't know it, it's a service (yes?) is it a box or something too and with that you get certain channels I assume in addition to the stations you get with sling tv?

The version I have is a little box that you stick on top of your TV. Basically, it's a device that allows you to consolidate all your streaming services into one place without having to switch back and forth between TV, computer, gaming console, etc.
You just plug it in to your TV's HDMI port and when you turn it on, it'll take you to a home screen. When you set it up, you pick what services you want to appear there. So, for example, my home screen comes up with an option for Netflix, SlingTV, Hulu, and the WWE Network. If I want to watch TV, I select SlingTV and it'll take me to the app. Once I get done there, I can go back to the home screen and select, for example, Netflix and start watching it.
The box comes with a little remote as well. Once you get used to it, I think it's easier to navigate than basic satellite or cable.
I'm not terribly familiar with how the individual channels on the Roku work because I haven't played with it much.

Well that's good info tho- thank you. Sounds like roku simplifies things into one place, I like the idea of that.
