Maybe QB. Not player.

what Miss State player was better than Archie Manning in college?

Archie Manning was SEC POY in 1969, a 2x AA, Walter Camp Award Winner in 1969, and Heisman finalist in 1969. At the time he graduated, he was the SEC's all-time leader in total yards.

It was a different game back then. So if you're trying to compare stats from today to back then, then you're going down an ignorant road.

Listen to this man. An LSU fan. He knows what's up.

People today that try to compare stats to past players are ridiculous. It was a completely different game and what he was able to accomplish in that era of football was astounding.

I mean, if you really want to compare his stats from then to players now the best one to look at is his single game yardage record that stood for 40 years and had to be broken by yet another freak QB. He was performing Manziel-like feats in an era where defenses were still basically allowed to kill you if you had the ball.
