Getting the itch to change but a home mortgage is always there to reel me back in.
10 years in and it gets so mundane.

I retire in 3 1/2 yrs and hell yeah I'm done with it.

Been there, made the change and couldn’t be happier. Do whatever you need to do to get your finances in order, then GTFO. Life is too short to be miserable. Fast forward several years, I’m making more money, living in a better location, and am more fulfilled - resulting in a better marriage, etc... all while essentially setting my own schedule.
Do it.
Here’s a thread I started on the OT back in October of 2015.

Five months until retirement for me and the thought of that glorious day consumes me - literally every waking minute of the day. My issue is stress though more so than boredom.

Tuscaloosa is dead right. Like he said, get your finances lined up first. I've had friends that decided to radically change careers before getting their ducks in a row and it caused a lot of misery in the short term. In the long run it worked out for them, but spare yourself that short term struggle.
If you hate your job then no amount of money is going to be worth the daily misery you are putting yourself through for it.
Good luck to you.

Every day of my life. Never imagined in college that graphic design would be this boring and mundane. For the most part I've got reliable return clients that order the same shite over and over again.
Signed up for some coding courses to get the fudge out of this. Code might be boring but at least it pays well.

Lotta wisdom in this post. I needed to hear this, man. Every bit of it resonates with where I’m at in life right now.

Props on the retirement

At work? Hell dude you retire in 5 months; when I get to that point I'll be so relaxed I'll be almost comatose at work

I actually just started the process of learning woodworking professionally. I'm miserable at my current office computer job, I'm much happier working with my hands. I'm also heavily considering a move to Maine next spring for a prestigious woodworking school there, should I get accepted.
I saved that thread of yours, thats perfect advice and motivation right now. It looks like you were in a similar place then as I am now and its very encouraging to know that you succeeded and are happier for it.

You are an infant in work years.

I have about 3 years to retirement, just finished my 34th year working for someone else. It gets old quick.
Doesn't help that my wife has been retired for 3 years already.

Perfect words.
Get your finances in order. Sell things you are having to work to "afford". Then follow his wise advice.

I love my 9-5.
Once I leave for the day, I don't think about work again until the next morning when I arrive.
It makes planning time off easy and budgeting even easier.

Found out last week my job is going away in January. First time looking in 14 years. Might take up fish guiding and making spinny baits.

How about you JUST GO put a cock in your mouth until the swelling goes down or suck start a 10 gauge.

ETA: OP, maybe check out positions that have more flexible hours/work from home to break up the routine if you don't want to quit it all cold turkey.

I would let someone come into my office and punch me in the stomach every day if it meant that I could retire in 5 months.

If you can combine graphic design with computer coding ability I can assure you... there will be a market for your skills. You could make a nice living just designing web pages for folks.

Good stuff. I think I was just about exactly where you are right now. 27ish years old and just pretty much fed up.
Something else I’ll add - a lot of people won’t “understand.” From the outside, I was “successful” by other people’s standards and most people - especially my family and closest friends - didn’t understand why I’d want to change anything.
It just boils down to asking yourself if you are worth more as a person than to simply exist. And you are.

How about both of you assholes teach me how to woodwork, and I’ll teach you how to fly planes.
Also, send me one of those fancy cutting boards.
Deal?
