No, he mailed it in from the start.
Franchione infamously redshirted all but five players (Earvin Taylor, Melvin Bullitt, TaTa Thompson, JUCO Mike Montgomery and Justin Warren) from the 2003 Freshman class. Out of those players he redshirted, the following were STARTERS in the 2004 season:
