The last poop train headed for a landfill in Adamsville cleared the tracks in April, but many who live near the landfill are worried the shipments might resume once the public outcry dies down.
More than 100 people attended a town hall meeting Thursday night at the House of Prayer Outreach Faith Church in Adamsville to discuss the shitty situation, as some who live near the Big Sky Landfill are concerned that they may not have seen -- or smelled -- the last shipments of partially processed human waste heading for the landfill.

The operation to import sewage sludge began in early 2017, after Big Sky got approval from ADEM to import up to 396,000 tons of sludge per year to the landfill from wastewater treatment plants in New York and New Jersey.
Sewage sludge, or biosolids, is the solid material left behind after modern wastewater treatment practices and can include both solid human waste remnants and a number of chemicals flushed down the drains of residences and industrial operations.
quote:
The containers were loaded from trains to trucks to be hauled to the landfill and generated complaints and legal actions from governments throughout Jefferson and Walker Counties, as the train cars sometimes ended up sitting on tracks for weeks at a time waiting to be hauled to the landfill.

I was out in that area for work last fall, and the smell was indescribably awful. Worst thing I've ever smelled. Those residents are right to be pissed off.

How far away were you?...and not that you would know but is this the kind of smell that will go away after time or is this area going to smell like dookie for decades?

My client's office was on the route the trucks took from the rail yard to the landfill. I was pretty far away(5-10 miles maybe) from the actual landfill, but anytime one of those trucks came by the smell lingered for 10-15 minutes. Client said there was often spillage from the trucks, and the smell would linger even longer when that happened. And on windy, humid days the smell would carry from the landfill to there.
I can only imagine how bad the smell is closer to the landfill.
