The radio guys in the morning brought up a good point last week
Let’s say the NCAA sits on their hands like we know they will. What’s stopping Bowen from coming back, and if they don’t grant him eligibility, just say frick it and go to the G league later in the year? He’s already a year removed from HS

If he was to get drafted would Adam Silver say “from the University of South Carolina” ?

I dunno how that works or what the intricacies are with a case like this. He's paying his own way right now. For him to be willing to come back and try to ride it out I would think we would have to put him on a full ride ... with no guarantees that he will be cleared eventually.
I would imagine that if the 30 May deadline passes we'll have to cut bait. Now, if he were a three year player we might look at it differently at this stage in the game. He would definitely be worth the time and effort but, at this point, based upon what his attorney keeps saying (and I am not a fan of how his attorney has handled this in the court of public opinion) it's either Bowen is cleared by 30 May or they are taking him to one of the overseas leagues for a year with the hopes of making the G-League by 2020 and gaining another shot at the NBA.
I doubt they would roll the dice on college eligibility and risk keeping him off the court past the overseas leagues' drafts ... the EuroLeague/Turkish and Australian leagues start up in late summer if I am not mistaken ... their actual games begin play in October I'm pretty sure.
Bowen would have to tryout for the various teams next month which might force him to make a decision now, rather than later.
If he wants to start getting paid now, it wouldn't surprise me if that's the route he chooses if he is still not cleared by 30 May.
As I understand it his family is not well-to-do financially. He's gotten some financial help through various outlets because he is a good student and brought good transcripts with him when he transferred. He could keep receiving those Pell Grant equivalents for as long as possible but he's having to work part time now and I can only imagine that he's ready to move-on one way or the other. At this point he probably feels as if his skills are deteriorating from lack of real game playing time and his clock is ticking.
I'm just speculating but if he is not cleared by 30 May, which no one over there believes he will be right now .... he'll officially be gone a week from today.
