There are 2 things
Fan support is vital as this is who pays the bills. More tickets sold, more merchandise equals more money that can be used to pay top coaches and recruit anyone, anywhere with private planes that can fly to local airstrips vs commercial thereby visiting 10 kids a day vs 2.
Having the fan base and administration headed in the same direction is a recipe for success. When Bama hired Saban, Ozzie Newsome said everybody's on the same page now and the Bama machine will be reborn. For the first time since Bryant we have a coach that every single Bama person is solidly behind. Win or lose, he's our guy. That just breeds success.
Yes, it's important u have the fans but u need the administration too. Not giving it lip service but providing whatever that coach needs and letting him coach how he sees fit and not interfering.
