If you think Jalen Hurts has the ability to takeover a game, you haven’t been paying attention.
He showed plenty of ability his freshman season. The guy got SEC offensive player of the year as a freshman and broke all sorts of freshman records for Alabama, which given its history, is a big deal.

But honestly I don't care whether or not Hurts is on the same level as Fields or Watson or anyone else. That wasn't my point. I was specifically addressing the concern that we need an elite dual threat QB to take down Alabama and used Hurts as an example of how our team held him in check while our freshman pocket passer nearly took them down.

You have to be really good passing and running. Hurts is only good at one.
Again, I don't care too much about Hurts except to talk about how we don't need Fields to win it all (though I'd be happy if he helped us do that). Hurts completed 60%+ of his passes both his freshman and sophomore seasons and only had one interception this past year. Pretty good for someone who isn't a good passer. Meanwhile he was very mobile and made it tough for defenses to defend him. If he had better pocket presence and made better decisions (he got bailed out a lot by his elite receivers), he would have been a monster.

I'm tapping the brakes a bit on Fields because we haven't really seen him in action in SEC football. No matter how talented a kid is and how dominant he was in high school, it's a different level in college, and even a higher level in the SEC. I hope he blows everyone away but I'm not ready to crown him the GOAT that will lead us on our way to achieving all our hopes and dreams just yet.

Since hurts isn’t an elite dual threat was it a good decision to use him to make your point about elite dual threats?

I like FROMM and he was very good last year - very impressive. It certainly is fair to want to "wait and see" with FIELDS - I understand why some are skeptical - I am just not skeptical at all as I have been watching him for a long time. On top of the physical skills that are obvious to all, FIELDS is super smart(29 on ACT) and was offered by ivy league schools such as Harvard. Processing the game won't be a problem for FIELDS just the way it wasn't a problem for FROMM.

I don't care which is QB1 when we when our Natty - as long as the DAWGS win one. I just know that Nick Saban and Bama have a much tougher time with the dual-threat QBs that are both smart, athletic and good passers (Hurts is not good passer).
