Even if we say that's true, just for argument's sake, he will still be behind Fromm next year.

Now let's say, Fields red shirts and stays only 3 years. Still behind Fromm next year, but with two unused years of eligibility he wouldn't be using whether he red shirts or not.

Now let's say he redshirts next year but stays all 5 years. He is STILL behind Fromm next year. But he now has 2 years of eligibility remaining to start.

Red shirting him in no way hurts us. He's backing up Fromm next year in every scenario. Unless he beats out Fromm which makes this whole exercise moot.

There is absolutely no reason to play JF1 just for the sake of playing him.
