quote:You are correct. You piss off the diehards and you sink your program. There are many fans who love to support the program - win or lose. All they want in exchange is 1) A fair shot at good seats 2) For their money to support the program to which they designated.
It is a big bubble and many fans have gotten wind and the bubble is about to burst.
Jeff Long pissed off a bunch of donors because he allegedly violated #2. The rumor is that he was pulling money from the baseball fund to give to other programs.
Here is my question. What is stopping fans from creating their own booster club. If somebody wanted to raise money strictly for baseball could they not open a gofundme and then hand the check over to Dave Van Horn or whoever your baseball coach is?

Because a coach can't just go out and hire a contractor to start tearing down and building shite without the approval of his Administration. So, that check would just get handed over to the Administration, and they'd do with it as they see fit. Funds being donated for one project and then being routed to other projects happens at every school, unfortunately.

They say it is an NCAA issue but I have a different view.
One of the SEC schools had a booster club and they had over 100K in it to subsidize fan trip. School took it over, kept all the money, and doubled the trip costs. Said it was the NCAA but I think they just did not want the competition of cheaper trips.
Did the same to the travel agents. Used to be your local travel agents did the away trips but it seems now most of them go through a single travel agency (at much higher cost) not in the local market.
The quest for more money is going to wipe it all out in the end.
