It’s more than just fan facility updates, though. Much needed indoor hitting facility, locker rooms, etc. were built.
You can't forget player facilities. I think a stadium in the middle of campus, close to classes, dorms, etc., would be preferred by players to an off campus facility just from a logistics standpoint.

I can see where people are saying Bama cut some corners, but it's a perfectly adequate park. If they turn it around on the field, no one will complain about the park (unlike, say, UF, where the Gators win despite playing in a dump).

The other park could've been less than two miles from campus. It wouldn't have been a big problem for people to get to. Part of the frustration is for years Bama fans heard rumors of a stadium on the river. Instead we gutted the old stadium and build a park that doesn't even put us in the top five in the conference. Is the location in the center of campus? Yes but they could've just as easily used that area for athletic upgrades that included batting cages and other facilities that could have benefited all athletes on campus.

It's hardly a dump. Don't get me wrong. It's plain jane and old but it's not exactly a "dump". They did spend some money sprucing it up not so many years ago.

It's pretty clean and neat actually. It just has no feel or atmosphere whatever that means.
