Big East with 16 teams was the dominant conference for about a decade straight before the ACC.
2011 the Big East sent 11 of 16 teams to the ncaa tourney. 7 advanced to round of 32. I know the 11 is a record. I'm not sure about the 7 teams into the round of 32, but seems a safe bet that it is.

The ACC holds the record for 6 teams in the Sweet 16. They did that in 2016. The Big East and the ACC had been tied at 5 before that.

It appears the Big East has the record for most teams making it to the Round of 32.... they've sent 7 teams to that round on four separate occasions:

1996: Syracuse, Cincinnati, Georgetown, UConn, Marquette, Boston College, Villanova

2004: UConn, Pittsburgh, Syracuse, Cincinnati, Boston College, Seton Hall, DePaul

2008: Louisville, Villanova, W. Virginia, Georgetown, Notre Dame, Pittsburgh, Marquette

2011: UConn, Marquette, Cincinnati, Notre Dame, Pittsburgh, Syracuse, West Virginia

So the SEC needs to go undefeated today to set the new record.
