It's easier to have conference pride in a sport like basketball and baseball.

1. Unless you're a Kentucky fan, basketball is a big deal to most fans, but nothing like football.

2. The SEC has historically been much weaker in basketball compared to the ACC, Big 10, Big 12, etc.... so watching the conference improve and get respect as a whole is satisfying.

In football, there is nothing else to prove as a league. We're the tops. So its a bit harder to root for your rivals in football.
