Nolan Smith, 5-star WDE (FL)

Alabama has long been after one of Georgia’s top-rated commitments. Like Sanders, Smith is also a product of IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. by way of Georgia.

Smith visited Tuscaloosa earlier this year for Junior Day and continues to listen to the Tide’s recruiting pitch despite his over year-long commitment to the Bulldogs.

“Just the people and the environment there,” Smith said of his favorite part about the Tide. “It’s a great place to go.”

Not only that, the five-star edge rusher says Alabama would likely be the team to beat if he were to backoff his commitment to Georgia. Although it remains to be seen if that will actually happen.

The Tide already has a pair of outside linebackers committed in its class in four-stars Kevin Harris of Loganville (Ga.) Grayson and King Mwikuta of Lagrange (Ga.) Troup County. Smith, of course, would still be welcomed, as would the aforementioned Thibodeaux. Linebacker is a priority position in the 2019 class.

Offensive coordinator Mike Locksley was at IMG’s spring game on Thursday night evaluating the Tide’s targets there.

Expect Smith back on campus for at least an official visit if not more trips than that in the coming months.

Clay Webb, 5-star OC (AL)

Webb is the final piece of the state of Alabama’s elite trio of offensive linemen. The Tide already has two committed in the aforementioned Quick and Kight.

Webb, the No. 1 center in the country from Oxford (Ala.), has long been trending 100 percent to the Tide on the 247Sports Crystal Ball, but has been adamant about not naming outright leaders.

He has, however, said in the past that Alabama and Auburn stood out considering he had visited both programs so often. As of late it appears Georgia has gained some momentum with Webb’s family ties to the Peach State and his relationship with Bulldogs offensive line coach Sam Pittman.

However, it’s the Tide that appears to still be in the best shape with his good friend and UA commit Pierce Quick working to get him to Tuscaloosa, as well as Webb’s relationship with offensive line coach Brent Key.

The in-state center doesn’t plan to make a decision until the Early Signing Period in December before enrolling early.
