You think if any of those teams started the pre-season ranked somewhere in the 8-10 range, and 7 of their 12 opponents had losing records, they’d still be ranked #1 or #2?

If Michigan, under Jim Harbaugh, was the only P5 team that was 12-0 going into their conference title game with a bunch of close, ugly wins over decent but not great teams.............yea I 100% think they'd be ranked #1 or #2. Zero doubt.

I don't think it really matters (1-4 make the playoffs), but I think other teams would get the benefit of the doubt.

Plus. Wisconsin ga,es weren’t really that close if I remember. They never had a tipped pass or a bad call or a last second field goal or one of those blip wtf games. They weren’t all 70-3 games but they weren’t sweating any of those games. And most of those were decided before the third quarter ended

I definitely think of the jersey said Texas for example they would have been number one
