I’m not trying to compare the 2, I’m saying Puryear should not be starting at the 4. He’s just not good on the inside. Now, he could back up Barnett at the 3. Then put Tilmon, Porter, and Nikko on a rotation inside. Nikko takes up a lot of room in there. Seems to be getting a little more confidence and aggressiveness too. Heck even Barnett could play the 4 better than Puryear. But Barnett is a much better shooter from the 3.

In Mizzou’s offense there’s not a lot of difference between how the 3 and 4 are used. Playing Nikko and Tilmon together kills spacing. So they are either or players.
Starting doesn’t really matter, as Jontay and Puryear play similar amounts of minutes.
If MPJ was healthy Puryear would be playing much less, but he’s not so there are minutes available.
Barnett at the 4 could be an option if Mizzou had better guards.

I think you are wrong on both counts:
1) You start Puryear over Jontay because of his experience, particularly once you get into conf play with hostile crowds and physical play. Jontay is best suited to come off the bench once the game has settled in. Plus he brings a scoring threat off the bench which is needed for depth.
2) Puryear is not athletic enough to play the 3. He travels quite often when trying to make a move on the outside and doesn't shoot well enough to play on the perimeter. The 4 is his best position. He's a junkyard dog type of guy (rebounds, put backs, hustle plays).
