This is absolutely nuts to me. We’re not that far from when elite coaches were making $3-$5 mill. and this guys has been on the verge of being fired two years in a row.

The the Aub's had pitchforks and tar & feathers at the ready in 2015 when they ended up dead last in the division and played in the B'ham Bowl at Legion Field.

Dude's been walking a tight rope for years with that fan base. Finally, after 3 full seasons he gets a win vs a top 10 ranked team and in doing so beats both of this rivals who were ranked #1 at the time resulting in a gigantic raise and contract extension. Jimmy Sexton is a master!

Perspective in important is life...5 years

Gus has won 10 games twice, the west twice, the SEC once, played for a national title as a 10 pt dog and was winning with .14 seconds to go, he has had his team ranked in the top 10 each season and watched significant injuries derail 2 of those 5 seasons, he has 5 straight and likely 6 straight top 10 recruiting classes, a high APR, his player discipline has gotten strong after a slow start and as sad as it is to say he has shown he can stand toe to toe with Saban "better" than anyone else out there to date. He is 2-3 as a head coach, 1-2 as a OC. My biggest concern when we hired Gus is his limited contacts in college would handicap his assistant hires, but that hasn't proven to be true beyond the first few seasons.

Not that it matters a ton, but his stats as an OC 2006-2011 are as impressive as any coach in the last 15 years. He also has a conference title in a Non-Power 5 conference and would have won 10 games had he stayed to coach the bowl.

Gus may not be Lombardi, but he isn't chopped liver no matter how dumb a majority of our fan base is...
