Sure it does. If Venables is our coach, they're still going to let us possess the ball. We'll still be allowed to have an OC and several assistant coaches for the offensive side of the ball.

The difference is, we know that Venables is capable if recruiting and putting together a defense that was good enough to help 14 of the last 17 national champions win.

If Kiffin or Norvell become the coach, we can be confident that either of them can recruit and put together an offense that was only able to help 5 of the last 17 national champions win.

And a downvote.

Norvell or Kiffin would be fine with the right DC, just as Venables would be fine with the right OC. I just think it's easier to find an OC who brings a top 20 offense, than a DC who brings a top 10 defense. Either way, that's what it's going to take to have any real success.

Yeah hiring fantastic career coordinators as head coaches has NEVER ended terribly before. You really want a brand new head coach to be cutting his teeth in the SEC West we'll have next season?

We're Arkansas. We have money. We have resources. Stop thinking like a Mississippi school. Texas A&M fired their coach and went out and hired Jimbo fricking Fisher. We should be knocking down the doors on the likes of Kiffin, Gundy, Leach, etc. ACTUAL head coaching candidates. Settling for Norvell, Venables, etc. this early on is just taking the easy way out and ridiculously lazy by the committee.
