Yeah the conference champ thing is a joke. The 2 best teams in the SEC may be in the west this year just in the Big 10 both may be in the division with OSU & PSU. The point is it is the best 4 teams which could be from the same conference, division, etc.

Someone already pointed out the main issue is how we determine who is the best with the so called top teams barely going head to head or have the same common opponent. Using conference champs is just a cop out.

Exactly. I brought up the conference standings earlier. SEC west has a 10-2, 11-1, and 9-3 team at the top. East has 11-1, 8-4, 7-5. You have to go to 4th in the west to reach a 4 loss team, and USCe is sitting there second in the east at 8-4. If we didn't have divisions, there would be a 3-way tie at 7-1 for top of the conference. Of course Auburn would still win that since H2H wins against the other two 7-1 teams.

I am against the 8 team playoff because it will be driven by P5 conferences based on money to ensure they get at least 1 team in every year. Nothing to do with the best 8 teams in the country.

If they added conference champ that was in top 10 only maybe but it should be about getting the best teams in the finals.

Currently according to the polls the top 8 would have 3 SEC, 2 ACC, 2 Big 10, and 1 Big 12 playing in the CFB playoffs and would have no issue with that and would be some great games.
